  42. DESCRIPTION

  44.         Pretty Good Privacy (PGP), from Phil's Pretty Good Software, is
  45.      a high security cryptographic software application for MSDOS, Unix,
  46.      VAX/VMS, Amiga and other computers. PGP allows people to exchange
  47.      files or messages with privacy, authentication, and convenience.
  48.      Privacy means that only those intended to receive a message can
  49.      read it. Authentication means that messages that appear to be from
  50.      a particular person can only have originated from that person.
  51.      Convenience means that privacy and authentication are provided
  52.      without the hassles of managing keys associated with conventional
  53.      cryptographic software. No secure channels are needed to exchange
  54.      keys between users, which makes PGP much easier to use. This is
  55.      because PGP is based on a powerful new technology called "public
  56.      key" cryptography. And PGP performs the public-key functions faster
  57.      than most other software implementations. PGP is public key
  58.      cryptography for the masses.

  67.         This version of PGP is for use in the USA and Canada only.  Users
  68.      outside these two countries should instead use PGP 2.6.2i, which was
  69.      announced earlier on comp.sys.amiga.announce.

  71.         This vesrion is based on the same source tree as PGP 2.6.2i.
  72.      However, it was compiled with the RSAREF library to make it completely
  73.      legal to use in the USA.  The USA and international versions are
  74.      functionally equivalent.

  82.      PGP 2.6.2 works completely with Kickstart 2.0 and above.  It mostly
  83.      works with Kickstart 1.3, but the key generation still does not
  84.      function under 1.3.  (We are working on that, however.)

  88.         This version of PGP is perfectly legal for non-commercial purposes
  89.      inside the United States of America and Canada.  However, before you get
  90.      it, you have to agree not to export it out of these two countries.

  103.      the export controls.  To get into it, first go to directory /mpj
  104.      and get the file README.MPJ.  If you agree to all the terms in this
  105.      file, it will tell you the name of the directory which is listed as
  106.      a bunch of ?'s above.  This name changes frequently, so read
  107.      README.MPJ right before you are planning on downloading files from the
  108.      site.
